Vintage Corsa History

(Abbreviated version here.  Complete version available in our member handbook)

The Corvair Society of America (CORSA) was established in 1969, shortly after the last Corvairs rolled off the Chevrolet assembly lines.  Southern California's inaugural chapter of Corsa was established in early 1970.  Over the years, club meetings moved around from Inglewood to Santa Ana.  In 1973, with the organization well-established and membership on the rise, SoCal Corsa successfully hosted the 3rd Annual National CORSA Convention in Anaheim.

In 1974, the OPEC gas crunch hit the country.  Southern California was particularly hard hit.  Getting a tank full of gas, when you could find it, meant dealing with high prices and long lines at the pump.  For these and other reasons, it was decided that the original Southern California CORSA Chapter would split into three local sections - a San Fernando Valley group, a central Los Angeles group, and an Orange County group. It was also decided that the parent club, Southern California Chapter, Inc. would be preserved and the three local clubs would become independently operating divisions of that organization. This is how Corsa West of Los Angeles, South Coast Corsa, and Vintage Corsa of Orange County were born.

Vintage Corsa of Orange County was officially established in early February, 1974, and designated as Chapter 917 of the Corvair Society of America.  The first official club meeting was held on April 15, 1974.  Vintage Corsa is organized under the General Nonprofit Corporation Law of the State of California.

This club's 1st logo, shown left, was developed that same year.  Vintage Corsa's current logo, right, was adopted on January 4th, 1988.

Today, more than 30 years later, Vintage Corsa of Orange County continues to be a proud, strong, and enthusiastic member of CORSA and the worldwide Corvair community.
